20 of the funniest failures in professional sport

The majority of the world watches sports – live or on their home TV – and have a favorite team to support while they do so. Unfortunately, even these professional stars tend to have a misstep or two along the way. What’s worse, however, is when these failures are filmed so that everyone can relieve them indefinitely. Most stars wouldn’t care, but some probably face humiliation all the time. Here are twenty of the funniest failures that occur in the world of sports.

Drop the ball

University of Utah star wide receiver Kaelin Clay literally dropped the ball last year as he was heading for a touchdown. The player ended up losing his grip on football at the 1-yard line as he entered an untimely celebration. Whoops.

Davis touchdown celebration failed

Vernon Davis thought he was going to score a nice touchdown for his team, but people ended up laughing instead of cheering. Davis ended up ruining his touchdown celebration, and everyone will remember that for a while.

Dance Ref

Referee Joey Crawford made a horrible blocking call in 2012 during a basketball game and then got down to dancing, which some assume to be Safety Dance. It was hilarious, and yet incredibly awkward too.

Drunk teletubby

Detroit Red Wing Riley Sheahan thought he was having fun on a weekend, but ended up getting pulled over and arrested for being “super drunk” while driving in a Teletubby costume. It’s the kind of ordeal that no one will ever forget.

‘Chink in the armor’

ESPN Editor-in-Chief Anthony Federico posted a headline that read “Chink in the Armor” while also referring to Jeremy Lin, an Asian basketball player. A firestorm unleashed on Federico, which ended with his dismissal from the sports network.

‘Up close and personal’

For just $ 60, you and a friend had the opportunity to hang out with Dennis Rodman “up close and personal” to watch a Bulls game at a downtown Chicago bar a few years ago. Rodman has certainly fallen a long way from fame.

beg for love

Rick Reilly, an ESPN analyst, was caught on camera begging his fellow co-hosts to give him some love for a scoop he posted on Twitter. It was certainly one of the most embarrassing moments to have been captured on the sports network.

Airtime spent

Mike Francesca was doing so well, until he fell asleep on live TV talking to WFAN’s Sweeny Murti. The interview took a bad turn when he started snoring throughout the process.

Breaking trophies

The father of an Alabama player took the fall for this one, unfortunately. The excited dad ended up breaking the Championship trophy, which was a $ 30,000 Waterford crystal trophy. School officials began working with the American Football Coaches Association in an effort to secure a replacement.

Fumbled Punt equals the Super Bowl

49ers punt returner Kyle Williams missed a losing punt – his second fumble of the game – that saw the Giants – their competition – end up in the 2011-12 NFC Championship game. Williams won’t be experiencing this one anytime soon.

Buttock failure

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez made sure everyone laughed at him as he plunged headfirst into the butt of offensive lineman Brandon Moore while he was on the pitch. It was a resounding failure that everyone remembers well.

Attack mops

The Toronto Raptors might not be your favorite team, but they sometimes make the headlines for some hilarious reason. Landry Fields tried to score but ended up hitting the mop guy in the head instead of in the net.

Trow’s Fall

Steve Lyons thought he would reach first base without any problem. Unfortunately, he ended up dropping his pants as he cleaned himself up after a successful slip.

Stop hitting yourself

Tyson Fury was ready for a knockout. His opponent was right in front of him and about to take the hit, but Fury ended up hitting himself in the face by accident. Slow-mo output is always hilarious.

Ball Boy Dilemma

A ball catcher was caught on live TV, thanks to EuroSport, during a professional tennis match having the side of his head smacked. Ball collectors, for those who don’t know, are not paid for their time spent helping out during a game.

Front latch

Oswaldo Arcia was hoping to catch the ball with his glove and make an out for his team, but ended up catching the ball using only his face. Baseballs are incredibly hard, so it must have hurt a bit.

Swish and fail

Nick Swisher was on his way to home plate to bring a point to his team, but managed to step aside before he could make it all the way. Of course, as a professional this was all caught on camera from the stadium.

Failed dive

Stephan Feck played at the 2012 Olympics, which is the sporting event that all professional and amateur players wanted to meet. However, Feck ended up ruining his dive pretty horribly instead.

Run through

A hurdler at the Chinese University Games decided he didn’t really care about the obstacles that stood in his way. The hurdler eventually cleared all the obstacles on the track and then continued to move forward.

Air balloon

DeSagana Diop doesn’t really have a high free throw percentage in her career – I’m just .467. However, that can feel high after he ends up throwing an overhead ball on a free throw.
