Tennis player Max Mirnyi retires from professional sport
The most famous and successful Belarusian tennis player Maxim Mirnyi has completed his sports career. This was announced by the tennis player himself in an open letter posted on the website of the Belarusian Tennis Federation.
“I want to let you know today that I have decided that 2018 will be the last season of my professional career. It was a difficult decision for me, considering that tennis has been my life since I was young. I’m glad I was able to enjoy this game for so long! When I represented myself or played for the country, I always treated my profession with a high degree of pride and respect, I always worked with total dedication and, as a result, I left the game without no regrets and only with a positive feeling! I managed to do a lot more than the kid from Minsk could dream of when he picked up a racket for the first time, ”notes Maxim Mirnyi.
Maxim Mirnyi is 41 years old. He is 2012 Olympic champion in mixed doubles (paired with Victoria Azarenka), he won the Grand Slam 10 times (a cycle of four most prestigious annual tennis tournaments) in doubles and mixed doubles, he won the final tournament twice ATP in doubles and he has won regular ATP tournaments 53 times (one of them was in singles). For some time it was the world’s first doubles racquet. He played for the Belarusian national team in the Davis Cup.
In addition to sports, Maxim Mirnyi is engaged in business. It owns the investment and construction company “Peaceful Way”, a sports and fitness center and a number of cafes.
In 2003-2004, he was the United Nations National Goodwill Ambassador for HIV / AIDS in Belarus.
