CHARLOTTE, NC – The Big South Conference on Wednesday announced plans to move forward with all fall sports for 2020. The UNA Lions compete as an associate member in football.

The conference issued the following information in a press release:

With a priority for the health and safety of student-athletes and others due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Big South Conference today announced that it will begin fall athletic competition on Thursday, September 3. The decision was made by the league executive. Committee in consultation with the Grand Sud Board of Athletics Directors, CEOs and healthcare professionals, and provides each member institution with the opportunity to focus more on return-to-competition protocols and necessary resources to facilitate the resocialization process, while maintaining competitive opportunities for her student-athletes this fall.

The new competition start date includes all non-conference and non-conference matches in the traditional fall sports of women’s and men’s soccer, men’s and women’s volleyball and cross-country, and coincides with the start. of the football season on September 3. Baseball, men’s and women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, softball, and men’s and women’s tennis, which hold their traditional seasons in the spring, will also begin fall competitive activities scheduled for or after September 3.

Member institutions in the Deep South may continue all permitted sporting activities, as defined by NCAA regulations, at their own discretion, as set out in their respective return-to-competition protocols, as well as local and state policies related to competition. individual campus decisions. The rescheduling of competitions will be determined by each institution.

The UNA Lions football team will face Western Illinois on September 3.
